Qantas has been running unpublished "Status Accelerator/Challenge" promotion for many years which is a Gold Challenge or Platinum Challenge w/o instant status. To apply this unwritten campaign you have to be preferably VA Plat or elite frequent flyers of other (extremely limited) airlines such as NZ. Your travel pattern/transaction history would be reviewed very carefully and you would likely be contacted via phone before you could get a result so please take it seriously. If your application were accepted, Qantas would offer a Challenge to either Gold or Platinum with variable requirement of "status credits" and other conditions at their sole discretion regarding your current Qantas account status. However if Qantas failed to see potentially high business value from you, they might claim that they "do not anymore offer status match especially to members of our competitors" or "that promotion does not exist". It's not true because their other promotions e.g. https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/double-status-credits-open-aug18 would mention the specific name of this promotion in their T&Cs. You are just seen as of little account and not eligible in this case.
