I called customer service to ask for a status match / challenge. I was told they would waive all fees associated with the challenge and I received details of the status match within 24 hours. I was matched to Platinum. Challenge period lasts in 4 month increments. I will end up at Executive Platinum within the first four months.

You also can write an email to aadvantage_customer_svc@aa.com with title Instant Status Pass. They usually reply within 1-2 days excluding weekends.
